Anna Perlin is a Hertfordshire based artist. After graduating with a first class honors in Textile Design in 2001 she started exhibiting her paintings in local shows and is now represented by several UK galleries. Painting full time, in 2008 so far she has exhibited at The London Art Fair, the Mall Galleries and the Bristol Affordable Art Fair.
The inspiration for her paintings comes from subjects she has a passion for and regular themes are the British countryside and dancers.
“Although it may seem they are very different subjects, what draws me to landscapes and dancers is their main similarity - the living, breathing movement and life in them. A wheat field can have the same energy as a dancer, and the natural fluidity of both is what I enjoy exploring.”
Growing up deep in the heart of Oxfordshire, her love of the outdoors and nature is strongly reflected in her landscape paintings which are often free from human presence and include fields of swaying grass and country lanes. She doesn’t use a set colour palette for her landscapes, preferring to mix new colours for each painting in order to capture the ever changing British seasons and weather, and to create a window onto the calm and peace of the country side.
For Anna, the particular fascination in painting dancers is capturing a moment of controlled energy and tension, or exploring the space in between an arm and the body in a movement.
Texture is also an important part of all her paintings and with both her landscapes and dancers, she uses a palette knife to put paint onto the canvas.
