“I finished Norwich School of Art in 2003. To be honest I didn’t take the time to learn much while I was there. Etching and stone lithography are skills I left with but I felt unsatisfied. Rohan and I moved to Cambridge to a tiny one up one down house and I started painting out of my oil box. I had very little clue how to paint. I taught myself by doing it. Making mistakes and gaining snippets of clues from books. I was just missing knowledge and experience. So I stuck at it.
I first submitted to the Mall Galleries in 2005, to the NEAC and sold a picture. I’ve been putting into the RP, ROI and NEAC since. I don’t really fit in societies or styles but that doesn’t bother me. It’s not important but it’s a handy advert. I’m aware I have a style but that’s down to my personality more than a conscious aesthetic decision. Because of my experiences of Art College and lack of education I try to stay clear of objectives, style or Art. I paint what I can when I can, something for the purpose of challenging myself to gain knowledge and experience.
I’m back in Norfolk painting in my shed with spiders, broken guitars and stuffed animals. I’m quite content but I always have my mind on what I could be painting next”.
