Andrew King ROI NS

Andrew King was born in Bedford.He went to Hornsey College, London, where he obtained a B.A. in Fine Art. The same year he was awarded a David Murray scholarship in landscape by the Royal Academy School, and has continued to paint professionally ever since.
He has had work selected many times for exhibitions in the Mall Galleries London, starting with the National Society, of which he was elected a member in 1984.
His work has been selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the New English Art Club, and the Royal Society of Marine Artists. He was a finalist in the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Young Artists Award and sold work with them as an associate member of the R.O.I. in 1992 (one of the youngest members). He is a member of the Reynolds Club.
He was a runner-up in a British Artist exhibition at the Mall Galleries, gaining a certificate of distinction in watercolour painting. He has also had work accepted for the Royal Watercolour Society at Bankside on a number of occasions, and has exhibited as a guest artist with them.
He has had two watercolour portraits accepted for the Royal Portrait Society. In 1995 he had work selected and sold at the Laing Competition at the Mall Galleries.
He has exhibited at Thompsons Gallery, Aldeburgh, ever since leaving college, and he sells work at various one-man and group exhibitions in London and the provinces.
He paints mostly in East Anglia, but has also painted in Paris, the south of France, Venice, Tuscany and Egypt.
His work is in private, public (three large pieces held in the collection of the House of Lords) and royal collections, and his name has been included in ‘Who’s Who in Art’ since 1986. He is listed in David Buckman’s ‘Dictionary of Artists in Britain since 1945’.
