Katharina Kubrick

Katharina was born on Christmas Day 1953, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

When she was around three years old, she moved to America where her mother married Stanley Kubrick.

From 1960 the Kubrick family travelled a great deal between the US and the UK following her father’s film projects, the result of which being that Katharina attended a great many schools, both in New York and London. After A-Levels at King Alfred School in Hampstead, she went to study art at the Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting in London .

In 1973/4 she took a break from art school to travel to Ireland and work as location photographer on "Barry Lyndon". It was on one of the sets that she started sketches for her "Sparks" painting. After one year she returned to Byam Shaw for a bit, but ended up looking for locations again for "Barry Lyndon" all over the U.K.

In 1975 she studied the history of Architecture with Patrick Reyntiens at Burleighfield House, and continued to paint.

In 1976 she was employed as art department assistant working for Ken Adam on the Bond film "The Spy Who Loved Me". One of her jobs was to design the teeth for "Jaws"!
She then worked on TV commercials and films variously as prop designer, draughtswoman, location photographer, set painter, model maker and art director; including "Moonraker", "Midnight Express", "Sphinx", "The Muppet Movie", "The Dark Crystal", "Saturn 3", "Supergirl", and "The Shining".

She left the film industry in 1984 when she married. She has three sons.
In 1987 she started painting again.

Katharina now paints full time and also teaches oil painting together with her mother Christiane Kubrick at their home.
