Roy Connelly

Roy has been creating pictures throughout his professional life, starting as a television cameraman over twenty years ago. The transition from the hi-tech world of digital TV cameras and satellites to the more old-fashioned techniques of oil paint on canvas has seemed a very natural one. After all, it is still all about making pictures.

Most of his pictures are painted from life.
For portraits and still-lifes, this means working in the studio or the kitchen, the bedroom or wherever the subject may be.

For landscapes, it means setting up outside in front of the subject.
That might be working on a beach with the wind blowing sand into the paint or trying to avoid the crowds while painting the canals and squares of Venice.

The larger outdoor paintings are worked up in the studio from studies painted on location.
