Steven Jones works from his studio in the picturesque village of Felinheli by the Menai Straits in North Wales. During the last three years he has gained national and international recognition through one-man exhibitions and art fairs.
He began his career as a freelance illustrator in London working for national magazines, newspapers, book publishers and advertising agencies. However after four years in the Big City, he became disillusioned with London life and the illustration business in general and moved back to Wales.
To move from illustration briefs to paintings for galleries was a slow and difficult transition but this was achieved by developing his own ‘impressionistic’ style in oils on laid canvas, of families enjoying the natural surroundings of the seaside or landscape.
This direction was greatly influenced by an exhibition of paintings by the Newlyn artists of Cornwall and also by seeing the work of Monet, Sargent, Morisot, Degas and other great artists at the National Gallery in London.
Steven now lives in Bethel with his wife and three young children who often appear in his paintings. He is close to the mountains of Snowdonia and the beaches of Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsular, which makes it an idyllic place to live, thrive and paint.
